Featured in newest Cadence Marketing Brochure

Thank you cadence for making me one of their top featured linguist in their newest brochure. I am quite Proud to be the only Indonesian and also the only Trilingual on the list. Cadence is one of the International Interpreter Agency that I was working with since 2015, and it was the one that gave me my first remote interpreting experience.

*my profile as written by cadence team.

Although most of my works with cadence involved Market Research Interview for Indonesian Market, but sometimes I also got a several interesting topics from them such as Gaming Industry, Bio Tech Industry etc.

I cover 3 language pairs for them :

  • Japanese – English vice versa
  • Japanese – Bahasa Indonesia vice versa

Cyberagent Capital Global Pitch 2019

Just finished the Global Pitch event hosted by Cyberagent Capital last May 17th, 2019.

I was appointed as their Simultaneous Interpreter and I was going solo for 5 hours without partner. The language pair was English to Japanese.

My job was to interpret :

  • Opening speech by Cyberagent
  • Keynote speech by Country Head of Google Indonesia
  • Pitching presentation from 14 startups (from Indonesia, Vietnam, Thailand etc)

It is an honor for me that the next day after the event, the Director of Cyberagent Indonesia texted me and said I was amazing at my job.

Mastercard Global Risk Leadership Seminar

On July 2018, Mastercard held the “Global Risk Leadership Seminar” in Bali Indonesia. The venue was a very luxurious hotel which is Sofitel Bali. I was chosen as one of their Simultaneous Interpreter for Japanese – English pair. There were 2 pairs of language which are Japanese – English and Mandarin – English. Each pairs of language was handled by 2 people so the total interpreters were 4 people.

Some of the presentations were talking about AI prediction, Decision System Making, Fraud Detection etc. And I did feel at home because this Computer Science stuff was actually my Major when I was in college. And I do put a lot of interest in Computer Science world, especially in AI and or Algorithm topics.

So in 2018, I have been to Bali twice and both of them because I was appointed as the Simultaneous Interpreter for Japanese – English pair. Such a coincidence that in both of the Seminars, some of the topics were also related to Computer Science, which is one of my strongest point.

Overall It was a great experience. Too bad they didn’t give us some free time because we all need to catch a flight back to Jakarta at the last day of the seminar.

The Beauty of Remote Interpreting

I have more than 10 years of experiences as Interpreter. And the technology such as Internet, VoIP, Phone Bridging System, Mobile/Web App has made something called “Remote Intepreting” possible.

My first experience as a Remote Interpreter was back in May 2016. Some Remote Interpreter Outsourcing Agency from China made contact with me via Linkedin. The way it works is as follow : I have to dial in (or they dial me) to a specific phone number at a particular moment to get connected between 2 parties that need my service as interpreter. Most of the cases, each of us were located in different cities or even countries because I also do the English-Japanese pair of language (I reside in Jakarta Indonesia). In some Outsourcing Agency, you can use your laptop as long as you have a good and stable Internet connection because they use their own proprietary web application on the net.

Last week June 12th, I have 3 Remote Interpreting calls in a row. What made it special is because all 3 of them were in different pair of languages. The first one is English-Bahasa Indonesia and we were talking about the Indonesian Government role in Corn Seed distribution in the nation, the second one is Japanese-Bahasa Indonesia and the topic was about IoT in home appliances, and the third one is Japanese-English regarding to the topic about how the pizza restaurant chain market works in Japan. So in one day I have connected people from Indonesia, America, Hongkong and Japan as Interpreter.

And last but not least, the beauty of Remote interpreting is that I could do it anywhere as long as I have a good Signal on my mobile phone or good Internet connection if they use the web Apps. Today is June 19th, 2018 and I have already finished 14 successfull remote interpreting calls only in this June. Most of them is English-Japanese pairs outside Indonesia.

International Jobs related with ASEAN Secretariat

Finally I got time to update this blog a little bit because currently we have entered the “Fasting Period” for Moslem, means everything will become less busy. This is because  Indonesia’s most population are Moslem, so during this period not much event or meeting will take place.

So let’s continue. Last April, I got assigned by ASEAN Secretariat for a Job in Bangkok Thailand. It was a wonderful experience. I finally got to ride the Bangkok’s subway and train. The job was in Kasetsart University. ASEAN Secretariat has a lecture event and invited the expert speaker from Japan to speak in front of international students at Kasetsart. The students are from Thailand, Laos, Indonesia, Cambodia, France, etc.
So I was hired as their Japanese – English Interpreter for the occassions.

On the same month later on, I got another Japanese – English Interpreter assignment too, although it doesn’t come directly from the ASEAN Secretariat as the above assignment, but they are certainly being involved. The job was in Surabaya and the Workshop title can be seen on the picture below. The participants are from neighbouring ASEAN countries.

It is in my nature that I like to meet and talk with people from various countries, this why I am quite suitable for any International Assignment and I am glad that I always finished successfully in all of my events.

F-Secure APJ Partner Summit in Bali

Since a couple of months ago, I got the same Simultaneous Interpreting Job offer that came from at least 5 different agencies. I got call from India (1 Agency), Jakarta (2 Agencies) and Bali (2 Agencies). They are looking for Japanese English Simultaneous Interpreter which is quite a rare commodity here in Indonesia, I think that is one of the reason that I always appear on the top of their list. So this is really interesting because no matter who won the pitching process with the client, it is almost certain that I would be their interpreter anyway.

Several things that made me excited with this job are:

  • The end-user is a Cyber Security company from Finland. And during my college years, I have been a huge fans of cyber security and hacking world.
  • My major in college was Computer Science, so my background is quite strong and fit me really well with the client.
  • The Presentation from the Finnish speaker was awesome, it filled me up with the latest updates from the Cyber Security world.
  • The venue was in Bali, so I got the chance (although just for a brief time) to enjoy another sunset and sunrise by the beach.

I am really glad the that I was chosen for this event and I was quite satisfied with my performance too as a Simultaneous Interpreter that deals with Japanese-English language pair.

Inauguration of new Japan Visa Application Center in Jakarta

For Indonesian that wants to go the Japan, it is imperative that they register themselves and try to get Visa approval. Eventhough with E-Passport (IC Passport) that requires no Visa for Indonesian that wants to visit Japan, they are still needed to register before they fly to Japan.

Up until now the Visa Application Center is located in the Japan Embassy (for Jakarta). But now the Japan Embassy has appointed VFS Global to handle the Japan Visa Application Center which are located in Lotte Shopping Avenue Mall 4th Floor in Jakarta.

I was chosen to be their MC for the Inauguration of this new Japan Visa Application Center. It was quite interesting experience because the multi national guests (Ambassadors from various Countries, Media Partners, etc) made me has to deliver the inauguration sometimes in 3 Languages which is English, Japanese and Bahasa Indonesia. I think I will come here often in the future to apply my Japan Visa since lately I almost always go to Japan at least once each year.

Indonesia Japan Urban Development & Housing Seminar 2017

Real Estate market is always a lucrative market in Indonesia. Despite that the Property or Real Estate Industry has been side way for a couple of years, the market demands for all Social Class is comparatively still high.

Several Japanese Companies has set their foot and gave us many High Premium Class project in Indonesia. And I considered myself lucky to be chosen as Simultaneous Interpreter for Indonesia – Japan Urban Development & Housing Seminar 2017.

Both Japanese and Indonesian Real Estate / Property / Construction / Developer Companies are giving their presentation in hope that some collaboration could occur in a near future. I expect to see more and more Property Project from Japan in Indonesia. The Keyword “Quality” , “Maintenance” and “Customer Service” are the core strength of Japanese Companies. While the core strength of Local Indonesian Companies is their Market Knowledge and Sales Channel.

Supporting PM Shinzo Abe Visit to Indonesia

Last Jan 15th, 2017 marked a new milestone in my career as Professional Interpreter. I was selected as the only Indonesian (Nationality) Interpreter that support the High Profile Visit from Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and 28 Japanese TOP CEO to Indonesia. The rest of the Interpreter Team was Japanese origin (Original Japanese People).

The Event began with Presentation Meeting between 28 Japanese CEO and several of Indonesian TOP people in one of the 5 Stars Hotel in Jakarta. The meeting was closed by the speech from PM Abe. After that, all of us went to Bogor Palace to attend the Gala Dinner with President Jokowi and all the VIP people. During the Gala Dinner, some of other Indonesian people were also summoned as interpreters to support the VIP here.

The whole experience was Really Great and has become my inner motivation to keep going Stronger and Better in this Industry. I was also proud enough to become the only Indonesian that was trusted as interpreter for the Meeting and the only one that wore the Indonesian Traditional Batik Cloth during the whole event (can you spot me on the picture above ?).

6th Industrialization

Last week I was in Lombok to support on-site meeting between Japanese local goverment (which I won’t disclose from which prefecture) with East Lombok local government. One of the theme that was brought up is 6th Industrialization (In Japanese it is called rokujisangyouka). I found this as a good concept so I want to share it here.

Basically 6th Industrialization consist of the 1st Industry (Production), 2nd Industry (Processing) and 3rd Industry (Sales and Distribution Channel). The number 6 came from the multiplication of 1, 2 and 3. 6 = 1 x 2 x 3.

In Japan, they have “Michinoeki” which literally translated into road station. The station here is a place where everybody can get information in both tourism and local product, and also act as a place to sell their local unique product. For example, a rice farmer not only produce their rice (1st), but they process their product into some packaging for example red rice cracker (2nd), and distribute it in this place (3rd). This utilizes all 3 function and that is 6th Industrialization.

Another great concept that we talked about is the “Market In”. Which means we always need to think what is the consumer wants and needs, in the opposite of just producing the thing that we want.

*Judging from the picture above, you might mistaken me for having a vacation there.

East Lombok itself is a very beautiful place. As you can see from above picture, a lot of people that saw it will easily mistaken me for having a vacation there. 4 nights, 4 different hotels, from sea side to mountain side, to waterfall and agriculture farm. It is almost like a tour/trip. Glad to say this is one of the Great Experience as Interpreter for this year.
